What a great week so far (at least in some aspects).
Genetics internship is being finalized... 8A-4P, Monday through Friday, all throughout June (except the week I'm in California) and probably July. I'm going to be part of all of the research projects, but I will be specifically involved in genetically mapping mice with a hemolytic anemia mutation as well as searching to identify the RNA/proteins (transferrin/ferrotinrelated to iron transportation (ferrokinetics). Once the gene is isolated, we can provide treatment for hemolytically anemic patients. Amazing? Yes. On top of having the chance to get to help thousands of people (chance of a lifetime), chances are I'll also be published in a medical journal (very, very cool). AND the doctor I'm working with studied at Harvard Med School, which is un-fucking-believable. This will adequately prepare me for Children's Mercy's ultra-competitive Summer Scholars program that I'll more than likely be taking part in next summer, which is basically same hours/days but for a few weeks longer and I'll get paid a little over $5,500 for it. ON TOP OF being able to take part in major genetic discoveries. I will know so much at the end of this internship that I didn't know before.
And I TOTALLY nailed my Physics test today. Yessssssss. And I think I'm going to be able to opt out of my Anatomy final. :)
And I have a 1.5 hour lunch tomorrow, so I'm going out to lunch with my mommy. :)
16 days until school is OUT.
This summer = genetics internship, all expenses paid California trip, and summer preparation.
Tonight = Top Chef, America's Next Top Model, Heart of Darkness.
I don't know what else to say.
I'm so excited for things to come. :)
